Khaled Assar besejrede verdensranglistens nr. 69

Khaled Assar er blandt de sidste 16 spillere i WTT Feeder i Düsseldorf (in danish and english)!

Khaled Assar, der p.t. er nr. 131 på verdensranglisten, trådte direkte ind i hovedturneringen uden at skulle spille kvalifikation. I første runde blev det til en sikker sejr på 4-2 over verdensranglistens nr. 100 Xavia Dixon fra Australien.

I 2. runde mødte han verdensranglistens nr. 69 Vitor Ishiy fra Brasilien, og kampen bølgede frem og tilbage før den ægyptiske topspiller kunne række armene i vejret efter cifrene 11-7 11-9 9-11 10-12 (efter 10-9) 6-11 13-11 11-9 (efter 1-5).

Khaled havde en sætbold i 4. sæt til at bringe sig foran 3-1 i sæt, men i stedet fik brasilianeren udlignet til 2-2, og da Ishiy også vandt det næste sæt, så det sort ud for Næstved Bordtennis’ topspiller. Assar fightede sig tilbage og viste stor mental og taktisk styrke ved at vinde de to næste sæt, og dermed kampen, efter at have været bagud med 1-5 i afgørende sæt.

I ottendedelsfinalen klokken 14.00 i dag venter Tiago Apolonia, Portugal, der ligger nr. 55 på verdensranglisten. Apolonia, der blev europamester for hold i 2014, har tidligere været oppe som nr. 13 på verdensranglisten.

Khaled Assar has qualified to “Round of 16” in the WTT Feeder Tournament in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The egypt international, who currently resides as number 131 in the world ranking didn’t have to play qualification. In the first round in the main tournament he defeated the world number 100 Xavia Dixon from Australia with 4-2 in sets.

In the round of 32 Assar was up against Vitor Ishiy from Brazil, who is currently ranked number 69 in the World.

Everything was on-track when Khaled secured a 2-0 set lead, but a missed opportunity in the fourth set to secure a 3-1 lead suddenly turned the game upside down, and the brazilian was level with 2-2, and minutes later  even 3-2 ahead.

Khaled showed immense tactical sense and fighting spirit and won the 6th set with 13-11, and in the 7th and decisive set he even came back from 1-5 to win 11-9.

In the round of 16 he will be facing the former european mens team champion Tiago Apolonia, Portugal, who is ranked as 55 in the World at the moment.
